Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights.

Leisurely walk in the mid-day...
Change is coming...you can feel it.
Spring wants to emerge
but on-going winter rainstorms keep it away.

A hard beginning maketh a good ending.

Hi ya!
Good news!
Abbey was adopted this morning by a couple from Chico, CA.

Abbey's way of letting me know she's hungry.
Digging deeper in Abbey's records...I found out that
she was dumped at the Yolo County shelter in 2006.
Adopted by a family in 2006 and named "Candy."
Nearly 5 years later the family returned her to the same shelter.
But rescued immediately by BCRNC
and placed in a foster home (mine!).

I can't believe the hard life this sweet, beautiful girl has endured.
Tossed around. But surprisingly, she's not messed up.
She was the perfect foster BC.
Now she landed safely with a couple who will give her a Forever Home.
It was a great match!
I love happy endings!

Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain.

Going for a walk after the rain, Lucas, Abbey & Josey
I love the confetti from the fallen pear tree blossoms.

Abbey is closer to finding her Forever Home.
Two applications were received and both good candidates.
When Abbey leaves, I will miss her very much!

We do what we must, and call it by the best names.

Waiting for breakfast....
This sweet girl deserves a new name and it's Abbey.
It is a smart girl's name.
Abbey loves to play ball but
sometimes the girls don't play nice together.
Josey & Abbey are both air traffic controllers (ATC).
Abbey: Hey, throw the ball!
Josey: Me! Me! Throw it to me!
So, one ends up inside (the house) while the other stays outside.
Each taking their turn to play ball.

Managing two female ATC border collies requires
me being alert, consistent and patient.
They throw glances at each other and
let out warning growls
but at the end of each day,
everyone behaves....Good Girls!

Note to reader mon: Candy & Indiana were owner-surrendered to a county animal shelter and their rescue coordinator contacted area breed rescues to pull the BCs out. When I picked up Candy, Indiana was there (but I didn't see him) and he was not yet placed with another rescue. Candy bullied Indiana so the rescue coordinator thought it best to separate them for better outcomes.

Sweet like candy to my soul, Sweet you rock and sweet you roll...

Hi, I'm not Lucas...
I'm Candy!

Our current foster BC is Candy - a 5 yr. old female
from the Yolo County Animal Shelter.
She has a little brown in her classic B/W markings.
We pulled her from the shelter this morning.
Surrendered by her owner
along with a house mate, Indiana - a male BC.
Candy & Indiana lost their home because the owners are
going through a bad divorce, selling the house, etc.

Paperwork said she is an alpha female,
a resource (food) guarder,
and that she postured at other dogs in the shelter.

We haven't seen any of this behavior -
 introductions to Lucas & Josey
and her first day with us went so smoothly.

I gave her a deep cleansing bath, brushed her out and
cut all the matted fur on her belly, hind legs, butt, tail.
Fur was all tight and constricting.
Poor girl - how did she move around?
She let out a huge sigh as I clipped as if to tell me,
Thank you I'm free!

She is very cool - confident, friendly and smart.
Candy & Josey stay out of each other's way
and I catch Candy & Lucas play bowing at each other often.

All in all everyone is settling in nicely
- napping as I type.
Candy is on her way to finding her Forever Home!

March 7, 2011

I believe the world to be a muffin pan, and there certainly are a lot of muffins here.

Today dogzoomies told me about a game from Pet Connection blog.
All you need is a muffin pan, balls, treats and hungry BCs.

Lucas was a natural from the very start.
(Sorry about the clicking sound - I used a well-loved, old digital camera)

Josey was a bit apprehensive...but determined.
Good girl!

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)

Thought of Sam today
after hearing a reading of my favorite poem...
.
Sam - 2005

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate  (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
